Empowering Education
Why Does Your Support Matter?
Intentionally Designed Core Curriculum
At Seven Arrows, the generosity of our community helps to fuel our intentionally designed curriculum. We take pride in offering a differentiated and individualized educational experience from kindergarten through sixth grade. With an incredibly low student-to-teacher ratio, each student benefits from learning in a stress-free environment that fosters optimal conditions for personal growth and achievement. Without the support of our valued donors, we would be unable to provide the ongoing professional development for our teachers nor the specialized resources and tools crucial for student success in our classrooms.
The cornerstone of Seven Arrows pedagogical approach is our focus on Integrated Experiential Learning. This distinctive approach is characterized by intentionally crafted learning experiences and instruction that foster connections across disciplines, habits of heart and mind, knowledge acquisition, and community connections both within and beyond the school environment. Seven Arrows provides highly differentiated learning experiences in which students develop their knowledge, skills, and understanding across multiple subject areas and learn to transfer these to new contexts. Students use skills and knowledge from differing sources and experiences, develop perspective by understanding diverse points of view, make connections between past knowledge and new situations, and apply social emotional “life skills” to learning and doing.
From Kuyam and Oceanography, to Masquerade and Innovation Fair, to unique partnerships like Kindergarten & Sixth Grade buddies and outdoor education opportunities, our integrated programs are grounded in the latest advancements in brain and child development research. This commitment ensures that every student follows a personalized learning path tailored to their needs. With these practices and programs, students continuously learn and adapt when windows of opportunity open. They become confident risk-takers in creative thinking, resilient in their pursuit of learning, and strive for excellence in their academic, artistic, and athletic pursuits. They understand their strengths and their needs as learners. They become respectful, responsible participants in their communities, both local and global, and possess a lifelong commitment to bettering the world.
Our Flagship Festivals: Integrated Learning In Action
El Dia De Los Muertos
El Día de los Muertos is one of the most unique and vibrant traditions at Seven Arrows. It is a celebration of life and death, honoring those who came before us and have since passed.
Prior to the Festival, our students focus on learning the rich history and traditions of Latin America, through research projects, writing assignments, presentations, folk-inspired art projects, traditional songs and dances. This area of our curriculum culminates in an extraordinary El Día de los Muertos celebration including student performances and an evening street fiesta featuring live music, culture, arts, authentic Latin foods, and more. Each year, our students' curriculum deepens in an age appropriate way.
Masquerade
The best example of our Integrated Experiential Approach is Masquerade. In this project, each grade studies a different notable period in history. Then students choose a character to embody, research and write a report, design a historically accurate costume, create the costume with the help of parents at our sewing atelier, and distill the written report into a brief dramatic monologue that they will perform for the community. The integration of these projects touch every subject: Writing, Global Cultural History, Art, Design, Mathematics, and Performance.
Research shows that when children have an opportunity to make choices in learning, which they do as they choose their Masquerade characters year after year, it keeps them engaged and builds lifelong knowledge. Encouraging choice is one way we ensure that students stay excited and engaged throughout all the years of their elementary school experience.
The generosity of our community is vital for sustaining a challenging yet nurturing education at Seven Arrows Elementary. They support small class sizes, specialized programs for holistic development, and create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can thrive academically and emotionally.
Athletics at Seven Arrows
In addition to a rigorous curriculum, the Seven Arrows approach prioritizes holistic development, empowering students to lead healthy, active lives and thrive both on and off the field. The Athletics Department at Seven Arrows Elementary plays a pivotal role in our students' education. Beyond physical fitness, sports instill values of teamwork, resilience, and effective communication. They offer invaluable opportunities for students to discover their strengths, build confidence, and cultivate lasting friendships.
Our program is meticulously designed to enhance students' social and emotional skills alongside their physical abilities, with utmost emphasis on their safety and well-being. Beyond mastering athletic skills, students learn critical life lessons in leadership, teamwork, sportsmanship, and perseverance. Our unique approach provides diverse opportunities for exploring various aspects of physical strength and development, demonstrating that athleticism can manifest in many forms.

Alumni Insights • Martín Amaya ‘18 Q&A
-
Q: Please tell us about where you went after Seven Arrows and what passions or pursuits you explored in middle and high school.
A: After Seven Arrows, I studied for one year at Harvard-Westlake Middle School. Afterward, I finished my middle and high school education in Bogotá, Colombia at a private institution called Colegio Los Nogales. Although hectic, I learned to embrace my multicultural spirit as a driving force for my curiosity and passions. Thus, throughout middle and high school, I explored a variety of activities ranging from Model UN, to tap dancing, school musicals, community service, singing, swim training, tutoring, creative writing competitions, school-sustainability leadership, math olympiads, physics olympiads, among others. I also pursued my quantitative and artistic interests outside of school through advanced individual courses in programming and biology and through my own hands-on innovations. For example, I pursued my passion for renewable energy systems and tap dancing by building a tap board that captures kinetic energy and produces electricity. Lastly, having moved to my home country, I found passion in spending time with my family and friends and living a balanced life.
Q: And now, what are your future plans?
A: I am off to Stanford University this fall and will be part of the graduating class of 2028. Although arriving undecided, I look forward to pursuing a Mechanical Engineering or a Material Science major, focusing on renewable energy systems. I also plan to participate in a study abroad program in France and continue my research in piezo and triboelectricity. I am excited to see where this next chapter of my life takes me.
Q: Thinking back to your time at Seven Arrows, do you have any memories that stand out?
A: Too many memories stand out; however, one I will always cherish dearly is the triathlon and the desire it seeded in me to continue swimming and challenging myself physically. I was never a sports kid, apart from dancing, and I never thought I had any chance at achieving the podium at the sixth-grade triathlon. However, I became set on the goal and trained with gratifying determination. Not only did I attain a second spot on the podium, but I also gained something else much more valuable: I gained confidence and an encouraging drive to push myself beyond my comfort zone and approach everything I do with utmost excellence, effort, and a high spirit.
Q: How do you think your time at Seven Arrows shaped you into who you are now?
A: I never truly believed the common saying that everything happens for a reason until I started reminiscing on my elementary education and realized how much it changed me. Moving from Colombia to the United States, barely knowing any English, my seven-year-old self arrived at Seven Arrows Elementary lonely, overwhelmed, and unable to speak. Yet amidst my silence, the founding vision of creativity, exploration, and discovery that permeates the school's curriculum gave me a voice. The school taught me creative, quantitative, and corporal self-expression at a time when my English self-expression skills were minimal.
Through opportunities to sing and dance at the weekly musical gatherings, build a life-size Lego Monalisa for Social Studies, experiment with 3D printing to represent atomic structures, engage in ethical leadership and community service, investigate and portray historical characters, become obsessed with Little Bit circuitry and bot programming, learn how to surf in the marine biology unit, pursue entrepreneurship, innovate, and discover the facets of my intellectual curiosity, Seven Arrows bestowed upon me a rare gift: the opportunity to embark on the journey of intellectual introspection at such a young age. Expanding my academic and creative horizons, this school cultivated the interdisciplinary spirit that now steers my pursuits and aspirations.
Q: Was there a particular teacher or experience that left an imprint on you?
A: Ron Seagal was the teacher who left the biggest imprint on my elementary school experience. He was my advanced math teacher since the fourth grade, and I always admired him for his creative approach to interpreting and teaching math to his fellow students. I also was deeply inspired by his dedication to community service in his projects outside of school. His encouragement, engagement, kindness, curiosity, commitment, compassion, and holistic guidance became integral parts of how I found my passion for mathematics and the STEM field overall.
Q: Even if you did not go to other elementary schools, how do you think Seven Arrows differed from other schools?
A: I attended another elementary school for three years before Seven Arrows and they were drastically different. My elementary school in Colombia had a rigorous curriculum with a formulaic approach to teaching. It focused greatly on core subjects like mathematics, music, science, language, and history, and it approached them individually, following a more old-fashioned education. Seven Arrows, on the other hand, teaches by inspiring constant creativity. Its interdisciplinary and liberating approach weaves subjects into each other, inciting well-rounded students. Seven Arrows infuses its classroom education, extracurricular programs, events, and activities with a truly coherent belief in exploration, diversity, understanding, creativity, awareness, project-based learning, purpose, and community. That freedom and support that’s felt around the school inspire students to take hold of their own unique child-like wonderment and learn in the most natural possible way. In other words, the school encourages, evokes, and nourishes authenticity and youthful, fresh intellectual curiosity.
Q: Lastly, what advice can you give current Seven Arrows students and young alumni as they continue their educational journey?
A: Seven Arrows is a gift. It is a gift that opens the world for you, allows you to explore your passions, and gives you a family to feel comfortable in to do so. The school offers you so many opportunities to learn and grow as an academic and an individual, it cannot be taken for granted. Therefore, my advice would be to take it all in, and take advantage of the opportunities and the extraordinary community the school has built around them: the Kuyams, the Día de Los Muertos, the celebrations; the book fairs, the Masquerades, the labs, the innovation fairs.
There’s something so magical about the school and, looking back on it now, I realize that the magic emerges from the school’s authenticity, community-building, and its genuine representation of the human experience. The school is a family, a place to feel comfortable to rejoice, study, intellectually and artistically explore, and learn. I would tell current students to work hard and enjoy the ride. I would tell young alumni to never let that spark of hope, color, creativity, and wonderment go out, that spark that Seven Arrows infuses in all of its students. Trust me, it will make an everlasting difference in your life.
Alumni Insights • Echo Caise ‘18 Q&A
-
Q: Hello Echo! Thank you for taking the time to share your stories with us. To start off, can you tell us a little about your journey after graduating from Seven Arrows Elementary School?
A: After graduating from Seven Arrows Elementary, I started my first large private school experience at Harvard-Westlake. While I had been at a large public school and then Seven Arrows, a small private school, I had never had the opportunity to experience the amenities that come with a mixture of the two. I think that Seven Arrows’ passion led learning combined with the variety of courses I was able to take really influenced my experience at Harvard-Westlake in a positive way, which made the transition an easy one.
Q: How did your experiences at Seven Arrows shape your values and who you are today?
A: Seven Arrows taught me to love the material that I am learning and to focus on becoming a better version of myself instead of seeing myself as a letter grade. In doing so, I was able to enjoy the pursuit of education and excellence in a way that inspires me to learn for learning's sake.
Q: Would you be able to share a specific Seven Arrows memory or teacher who had a lasting impact on you?
A: A Seven Arrows memory that had a lasting impact on me was our presentations on a historical figure that we presented at Kuyam. I had made a presentation and costume about Ramses III, which I truly enjoyed, and it helped stem an interest for myself in the subjects of art and history, which I pursued throughout high school.
Q: How do you think the values taught at Seven Arrows have influenced your approach to community involvement?
A: The values at Seven Arrows of passion for discovery really influenced my approach to community involvement. Being interested in the water, I found that cleaning the oceans and the marina, where I row, to be a great way to give back to the community I am in and surrounded by. I also became head of a branch of a non profit organization where I would donate shoes to underprivileged women in Third World countries. While I wasn’t as familiar with this community, my research and interests inspired me to help out, which is definitely a Seven Arrows thing to do.
Q: Lastly, in your opinion, what makes Seven Arrows Elementary School unique or special?
A: The ability to learn through many non traditional ways is what makes Seven Arrows special. Because of this, students are eager to learn and help each other become the best versions of themselves by studying topics and skills that others would never have the opportunity to experience. At Seven Arrows Elementary, students can count on to learn more about themselves along with their academic experience, than they ever might throughout their whole academic career.

Ethical Leadership
An integral piece of Seven Arrows' educational approach is our commitment to service learning. The school's Ethical Leadership Program is a way of empowering students and bridging the gap between classroom learning and the real-world. Students are accompanied along in their journey of making positive contributions to communities and causes that they are passionate about.
In the sixth grade, (and often before) students complete Ethical Leadership Projects. These projects are student-driven and designed, emphasizing autonomy and responsibility. Past initiatives include supporting cancer research, animal rescues, orphanages around the world, rainforest conservation, homelessness causes, book and toy drives and so much more.
By the end of sixth grade, every student is expected to have led at least one Ethical Leadership project, embodying the school's core values of leadership and civic engagement. This commitment to service learning underscores Seven Arrows' unique approach to education, where students not only excel academically but also become compassionate and responsible members of their community.
